Since 2002, the farm has been transitioning from a row crop system to a pasture system.  Currently, the farm has 44 beef cows that will start calving around April 1st.  Many conservation practices have been installed from access roads and crossing fencing to water lines with portable tanks.

EXPO UPDATE:  Agriculture-Natural

Resource-Conservation Expo 2008

 

The second annual Expo will be held at Kenwood Farms near Augusta on Saturday, September 13, 2008.  Carroll, Columbiana, Harrison, Jefferson and Stark Soil and Water Conservation Districts along with Crossroads RC&D, Carroll County Health Department, Farm Bureau, Ohio Division of Forestry and Wildlife, East Central and Northeast Ohio Forestry Association will be in charge of putting this event together.

 

Speakers will include the following:  Joel Salatin who promotes sustainable agriculture, Bob Hendershot who is the State Grassland Conservationist for the NRCS, Darrin Petko who will be talking about pond management, and Brian Nentrup who will be speaking on managing the whitetail deer population.

 

Attractions for kids will include Farm Safety-Just for Kids and COSI on Wheels-Agriculture Adventures.  Also there will be activities in each tent pertaining to that tent’s subject.  The tents consist of forestry, energy, wildlife, small farm, pasture, soil and water conservation and small farm.

 

There is no charge for this event and we hope to have something that will interest everyone.

 

Restroom facilities and food will be available at the Expo.  Limited handicapped access is available at some of the Expo sites.
